Lisa - 100 lb Weight Loss
Submit Your TestimonialHi! My name is Lisa and on April 5, 2010 I had gastric bypass surgery. I truly believe it was the best personal decision I have ever made.
I would like to begin by saying I have actually GAINED gained my life back! I gained a new birthday, which is one day after my original birthday and yes, I celebrate them both! I gained self-confidence, energy, a better lifestyle, and the ability to truly enjoy and embrace life. I love being able to hold my head high and look people in the eye as I pass them by, but the most important one I can look in the eye is the one staring back in the mirror.
Prior to my surgery I had high blood pressure and high cholesterol both of which were not responding to medication. I was in the beginning stages of sleep apnea and snored extremely loud. I had weight induced asthma & used an inhaler on a regular basis. I also had to take daily medication for acid reflux and I had no energy and no desire to go out in public or participate in social events.
My mother, sister and brother all had strokes of different degrees. My mother & sister have since passed and fortunately my brother’s stroke was very mild affecting his vision in one of his eyes and he is still with us. Between my genetic makeup and my poor health and obesity I was a stroke waiting to happen and I was terrified. I had had enough. I wanted to be here to see my grandchildren grow and be a part in the life of my son and to spend many wonderful, healthy years with my loving husband. I WANTED TO LIVE! I was coming up on 50 and I wanted to be fifty and fabulous, inside and out. I finally made the decision to have weight loss surgery and I have never looked back.
Today I have long since met my goal weight. I am almost 4 months away from my 50th birthday (and my 2nd post-surgery birthday) and I am so happy to say that I am 100 pounds lighter and excited to be fifty and fabulous. I no longer have high blood pressure or high cholesterol and require no medication for either of them. My asthma is gone and so are the inhalers, as is the acid reflux & the medication that went along with it. I no longer snore and the apnea issues are gone. I have so much energy and I love working out (who would have thought!) My husband and I have become so active and grab every opportunity to go out and do things together and socialize with friends, family & even strangers!
Weight loss surgery was the magic bullet to get me there but it is my dedication and commitment to my entirely different lifestyle and desire to enjoy many years to come that keeps me there. One of my personal mottos is, “I can’t keep what I have if I don’t do what I should.”
I am Embracing the Journey!
Lisa
